Temple Israel Receives Gift from Estate of
Milton Q. and Jeanne Ford
MEMPHIS, TN, February 24, 2009--Temple Israel is the recipient of a generous gift from the estate of Milton Q. and Jeanne Ford. The gift, part of a charitable remainder trust, will be used as an endowment for education at Temple Israel.
Charitable Remainder Trusts are an ideal gift for donors who wish to support their favorite charitable organizations but need income while they are alive. Assets are placed in a trust and the donor determines how much the annual income will be and how long it will last. At the donor’s death, or at the end of a term of years, the remaining balance in the trust is passed to charitable organizations chosen by the donor. The Fords created their trust to ensure that the local charitable organizations about which they cared deeply were recipients of a portion of their estate upon their deaths. In addition to Temple Israel, 2 other local charitable organizations benefited from the Trust.
“Jeanne and Milton were beloved lifelong members of Temple Israel with past generations of Temple members dating back to the early 1900s! Their legacy to Temple Israel will continue their love for and commitment to our congregational family. We miss them greatly and appreciate their undying generosity,” commented Rabbi Micah Greenstein, senior rabbi of Temple Israel.
Also commenting on the gift was Billy Orgel, president of the board of trustees at Temple Israel, “This generous gift from the estate of Milton Q. and Jeanne Ford to be used for scholarship opportunities at Temple will preserve their wonderful legacy of giving that they established during their lifetimes”.
